One of the first things I thought about when considering building my own home business was what products can I sell? I have finally realised that the answer to that is limitless. You can sell almost anything, as long as they are unique functional products and you understand the correct way to market your product to your targeted market. A lot of people buy things they don’t need so if you can advertise your product in a way which makes consumers feel they need it, then they will definitely buy it.

I am also in the midst of deciding which product I should sell for my soon-to-be set up home business. But what kind of unique functional products should I offer? I think the best product would be one which I have a passion for so that I will enjoy investing time and hard work in it. Furthermore, if it is a product which I have knowledge in then when customers have any inquiries, I will sound like a pro answering them.

In a nutshell, there are three options you can contemplate when selecting what to sell:

1. Selling ideas for new products. This is not a preferred option for people who are just starting out as it requires a lot of money and takes a lot of time and also manpower. However, there are a lot of companies looking for new products in the market. So if you can create your own unique functional products which cannot be found for sale elsewhere, then you will be able to make a lot of money. For example, the fashion industry is a big industry so you should look into creating new fashion products.
   
2. Wholesale products for resale. This means buying a product which someone else has created then reselling it to consumers. This option is the fastest for you to get your business going. Sadly, this also means that numerous other people will be selling the same product as you. So in order to be successful, you must market the product in an innovative way and maybe find a way to improve the product or make it different from the ones in the market.
3. Reputable affiliate programs whereby you join up and resell other people’s products. This option may be the easiest way to earn money but you are limited in what you can offer and what you can do with the product in terms of marketing. There are online sites such as affiliatescout.com and affiliateguide.com, which offer a number of affiliate programs for different sorts of products.

You can use the three options above as a guideline to determine what unique functional products you can sell with your home business. The opportunities are endless but be sure that you believe in the product yourself, as it is difficult to convince someone else to purchase something you yourself do not believe in.
